Electron +3 Corona Ring for C1 and C2 Powder Coating Guns
Improve powder application and achieve smoother, more consistent finishes with the Electron +3 Corona Ring. Also known as a corona ion collector or powder coating gun de-ionizer, this genuine Electron accessory is designed for Electron E-Gun +3 C1 and C2 manual powder coating guns.
The Corona Ring helps collect excess free ions between the powder gun and the grounded part. This can reduce overcharging, back ionization, uneven powder buildup, and the orange-peel appearance that may occur when coating difficult surfaces or applying multiple layers.
Key Benefits
- Reduces Back Ionization: Helps minimize surface defects caused by excessive electrostatic charge.
- Promotes Smoother Finishes: Supports a more even powder layer for improved final surface quality.
- Controls Excess Free Ions: Collects unwanted ions while allowing charged powder particles to remain attracted to the grounded part.
- Improves Recoat Performance: Useful when applying second coats, clear coats, primers, and other multi-layer powder coating finishes.
- Helps With Difficult Parts: Provides greater application control on wheels, recessed areas, corners, curves, and complex geometries.
- Supports Better Transfer Efficiency: More controlled electrostatic charging can help reduce unnecessary overspray and powder waste.
- Quick Installation: Designed as an add-on accessory for compatible Electron +3 manual powder coating guns.
How the Electron Corona Ring Works
Corona-style powder coating guns create charged powder particles along with free ions. The powder particles are attracted to the grounded part, but excess free ions can also collect on the surface. When the electrical charge becomes too concentrated, the part may begin repelling additional powder.
This condition is known as back ionization and can contribute to uneven film build, pinholing, cratering, rough texture, and orange peel. The Electron Corona Ring helps capture excess free ions before they reach the part, providing greater control over the electrostatic charging process.
Recommended Powder Coating Applications
- Automotive wheels and wheel faces
- Second coats and clear powder coats
- Primer and topcoat applications
- Metallic, textured, and specialty powders
- Parts with deep recesses or Faraday cage areas
- Curved, tubular, or complex fabricated components
- Heavy film-build and multi-layer finishes
- Professional and production powder coating shops
Compatibility
The Electron +3 Corona Ring is designed for the following manual powder coating guns:
- Electron E-Gun +3 C1
- Electron E-Gun +3 C2
It is compatible with Electron +3 manual systems that use the applicable C1 or C2 powder gun, including compatible configurations of the Electron Pro +3 and Electron +3 Master M .
Important: Verify the gun model on your Electron powder coating system before ordering.
When Should You Use a Corona Ring?
A corona ring is especially helpful when you notice powder repelling from the part, rough or uneven powder buildup, difficulty applying a second coat, or surface texture caused by excessive charging. It can also provide additional control when coating detailed parts, deep recesses, wheel spokes, and other challenging geometries.
Not every powder or part requires a corona ring. Because the Electron Corona Ring can be installed or removed as needed, operators can choose the best configuration for each coating application.
Professional Finish Control for Electron Powder Coating Systems
The Electron +3 Manual Gun Corona Ring gives professional powder coaters another level of electrostatic control. By helping reduce excess free-ion buildup, it can improve powder penetration, support more uniform film thickness, and produce a cleaner, smoother finish with less rework.
Proper grounding, clean powder pathways, correct air pressure, and appropriate voltage and current settings are still essential for achieving the best powder coating results.
